dig in, dig into something = start eating with an appetite
examples:
- Dig in! The food is getting cold.
- Don 't be shy, guys. Dig in. The pizza is for you.
- We were all very hungry and dug into the food right away.
- The children dug into the cake with great enthusiasm.
- The big first course with chicken and salads did not prevent us from digging into the ice-cream and cheese pie later as a dessert!
